    8 Grilled Kielbasa

As the sausage aficionado that I am, I can’t resist throwing some on the grill every now and then. This easy grilled kielbasa and veggies dish is just another episode of my never-ending adventure.

But one that I keep repeating because this is a yummy and very fast grilling recipe. Kielbasa is a type of cooked sausage, so the goal is to simply reheat it and give it a little char.

    🌭 Ingredients

ingredient photo showing the cooked kielbasa on a sheet pan with a tomato, peppers and onion.
    Simple Ingredients

🛒Precooked Kielbasa – Any type of smoked sausage originating in Poland is considered a kielbasa. It is usually a blend of meats starring pork and comes already smoked.

You can buy raw, unsmoked kielbasa as well, but that defeats the purpose of this recipe, which is a great smoky flavor when you don’t have the time. As a result, choose a pre-cooked kielbasa.

🛒Sweet Peppers – We got the small tri-color package. These are perfect for the grill because they are already the right size. If you have larger peppers you should cut them into smaller chunks for fast cooking.

🛒Jalapeños – Some heat is an excellent addition. Feel free to skip them or add more sweet peppers to the grill instead of the hot variety.

🛒Red Onions – We love the flavor of red onions for this recipe. In a pinch, use sweet onions instead. Yellow onions are softer and perhaps a bit too bland for grilling.

🛒Tomatoes – Roma tomatoes often have the best flavor in winter, and work just as well but require a longer cook time. In the summer if you have garden tomatoes, cut them into uniform smaller size chunks.

🛒Olive Oil – Just a light coat is needed so the vegetables don’t stick to the grill.

    🔥 Instructions

Scoring kielbasa sausages using a sharp knife.
Make a crosshatch pattern on each sausage.

👉Step 1. Make shallow diagonal cuts on the kielbasa surface to form a crosshatch pattern. This helps it absorb more flavor and cook faster.

Roma tomato cut in half on yellow surface.
    Halve the tomatoes.
Cutting a red onion in to quarters.
    Quarter the onions.

👉Step 2. Cut the tomatoes in half and the onions into quarters.

Applying spray oil on fresh veggies in a bowl.
Give the veggies a light coat of oil to prevent sticking to the grill.

👉Step 3. Add all the veggies to a large bowl, spray them with oil, and mix them up for even coverage.

👉Step 4. Set up the grill for direct heat and preheat it to 350°F.

👉Step 6. After 4-5 minutes, turn the links and onions.

Kielbasa sausage and peppers on the grill.
With the sausages partially cooked, it’s time to add the peppers.

👉Step 7. Place the peppers on the grill.

👉Step 8. After a couple more minutes, place the halved tomatoes on the grill, cut side down.

Turning kielbasa sausages and vegetables on the grill grates using grilling tongs.
Monitor the veggies and sausages and remove the ones that are ready.

👉Step 9. The kielbasa is ready when its internal temperature reaches 145-155°F. Use a digital meat thermometer for accurate measurement. This takes around 8-10 minutes at 350°F.

👉Step 10. Keep an eye on the veggies – they won’t all be ready at exactly the same time. Turn each as needed and remove once charred on both sides.

Enjoy this sausage and veggie medley straight off the grill!

    👉Step 11. Serve hot!

    ❗ Recipe Tips and Tricks

📌Time Adding The Vegetables | Onions will take longer to grill, and tomatoes will take a lot less time. Add them on at different moments to have them all finish within a short time frame. This way you can enjoy them hot!

📌Choosing The Right Kielbasa | For this fast grilled kielbasa with charred veggies always choose the precooked sausages.

Good quality kielbasa will have a short list of recognizable ingredients. Avoid the ones that include excessive fillers or artificial preservatives.

The texture should be firm and not too dry, a good indication of a high meat content and proper smoking technique.

    🔪 Meal Prep

Chop up the leftovers before refrigerating or freezing. Use them later in scrambled eggs, use them in a soup, or just reheat them in a skillet straight up.

    🔄 Additions and Substitutions

👍Add A Dry Rub | Rub them with mustard and add your favorite rub to them like we did the smoked hot dogs, a little sauce as is done with the smoked little smokies or in a cast iron skillet as we did with the sausage and peppers.

👍Grill Other Veggies | So many vegetables are great with kielbasa. Try large mushrooms on the grill, grill up some potatoes and carrots, or choose hot peppers instead of sweet peppers.

👍Pair With Fruit | Apples or pineapple are a fun addition to the grill and go perfectly with this flavor profile.

    🍽️ Serving Suggestions

What goes with grilled kielbasa? You have so many options and this is what makes a quick meal like this so satisfying!

⭐Self-contained Meal | You can serve kielbasa and grilled vegetables as a dish in and of itself. And a low-carb one!

⭐Starchy Sides | Make it more filling by pairing the sausage and veggies with a starchy side such as rice, potatoes, or fresh bread.

⭐Sandwiches | Serve them on a bun as a grilled kielbasa sandwich and feel free to add extra toppings and condiments.

⭐Dipping Sauce | Accompany your meat platter with savory dipping sauces such as hot mustard, honey mustard, ketchup, garlic aioli, or a creamy horseradish sauce.

    ❓ Recipe FAQ

    How long to grill kielbasa?

The pre-cooked kielbasa we used took 8-10 minutes tops, but of course, that can vary depending on the thickness of the sausage.

Do I need to boil my kielbasa first?

No. Purchase and use pre-cooked, smoked kielbasa for this recipe. It’s basically reheating the meat with the added flavor from the grill. If you purchase raw kielbasa you will want to cook it differently.

What temperature is kielbasa done on grill?

Shoot for an internal temperature between 145ºF and 155ºF and check the temperature using an internal temperature probe.

How to cook Polish sausage on the grill?

Polish sausage and kielbasa are the same things, so follow our step-by-step grilled kielbasa recipe for perfect results your whole family will love. Eight to ten minutes on a pre-heated grill is all you need.

How to cook kielbasa and potatoes on the grill?

Potatoes take longer to cook than smoked kielbasa, so if that’s your goal you will want to dice up your potatoes and start those earlier in a foil packet or grilling pan.

I recommend halving baby or new potatoes and plan for a total cooking time of 20-25 minutes on those.

    Notes

Storage: Keep leftovers in the refrigerator with the vegetables in an airtight container for 3-4 days. You can use a freezer-quality plastic bag if you prefer. Reheat in a skillet or microwave.
Freezer Friendly: Freeze the leftovers for 2-3 months in an airtight container. We add the leftovers and vegetables to Tupperware containers with a bit of rice and freeze them for lunches.
No Boiling: Purchase and use pre-cooked, smoked kielbasa for this recipe. It’s basically reheating the meat with the added flavor from the grill. If you purchase raw kielbasa you will want to cook it differently.
