    7 Smoked Pumpkin Butter

Get ready to up your fall smoking game with this amazing 10 minute recipe. Simply adding a little bit of whipped butter to any bread is fantastic but when you infuse it with smoked pumpkin purée, you’ve got yourself an extra special treat that is perfect for all of September, October and November.

Take note that this recipe doesn’t require any sort of cooking!

    Why This Recipe Works

Simple: You are using the smoked pumpkin you already made and simply whipping it with softened butter. It’s so simple it’s almost not a recipe at all. You didn’t throw the seeds out, I hope. You will want to make the Cajun Smoked Pumpkin Seeds for the ultimate fall snack.

Great for Gatherings + Gifts: I love to serve this one at fall related gatherings as no one else makes it and it’s always a hit. Whether you are gathering with friends and family for a weekend visit or want to give to neighbors as a thank you, this is one that is well received.

Inexpensive: Since it is just a couple ingredients, it is really inexpensive to do yet no one will know.

    🎃 Ingredients

Smoked Pumpkin Purée – Pumpkin Purée is simply the meat of the pumpkin blended into a smooth consistency. For this recipe, we are using the purée from our Smoked Pumpkin recipe.

Butter – Use unsalted butter and make sure that it is warmed to room temperature before you start or it won’t blend correctly.

Apple Pie Spice – I chose to use apple pie spice instead of pumpkin pie spice because it uses allspice rather than pumpkin pie spice which uses cloves. Both work great in this recipe and if you don’t have apple pie spice, use pumpkin spice without hesitation.

    🍽️ Instructions

Step One: Place the butter (at room temperature) along with the remaining ingredients into a sturdy food processor.

Step Two: Blend for 8-10 minutes straight. You will need to make sure to allow it to keep blending for the entire time.

⚠️ Warning: During the first few minutes, the mixture will look like it is separating. I initially thought I did something wrong. Don’t worry about it. Just allow it to keep going and it will become smooth and rich in texture. Mine took a full 10 minutes to get to that level.

Some folks blend the butter by itself for 3-5 minutes and then add in the remaining ingredients. That works too, but I tend to like to find options for quick “dump and go” alternatives. Look for a final product that looks like creamy, whipped butter.

    🍴 Substitution

Always room to make a few substitutions if needed.

    • Use maple syrup instead of honey for a full bodied fall flavor
    • Add a dash of vanilla
    • Grate a little bit of cinnamon stick in it for a more robust cinnamon flavor
    • Add crushed nuts at the very end of the mixing cycle for a crunchy whipped butter that is amazing on bread and waffles

    Perfect for Waffles

    📌 Recipe Tips

Be super patient as the food processor blends the ingredients together. It is natural to think it will come together quickly but it really takes a few minutes to make it light, fluffy and creamy.

Serve this with something sweet like maple syrup on waffles or a cranberry bread that is sweet and tart as both of these set off the slight smoke flavor of the pumpkin and work well together.

Keep this in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

    🎁 Gift Giving

This butter makes a great hostess gift for fall festivities. If you are invited to a fall BBQ, Trick or Treat dinner or Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving, whip up a jar and give it with a loaf of fruit bread as a hostess gift.

    Notes

We used the Smoked Pumpkin Purée.
Blending: When you start to blend the whipped butter, it will separate and look like it is not working. Leave it alone and allow it to blend for the full 8-10 minutes. It will fully blend together. If you are worried, you can whip the butter first so it’s light and fluffy and then add the remaining ingredients. Both techniques work great, you just need to be very patient. Be super patient as the food processor blends the ingredients together. It is natural to think it will come together quickly but it really takes a few minutes to make it light, fluffy and creamy.
Smoky Flavor: The butter is not too smoky at all, but adding it with a fruit bread or on waffles with maple syrup complements the smoked pumpkin purée beautifully!
Storage: Keep this in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
